Brief Club History

A meeting to form the Westbury Bowls Club was held at the Council Chambers on the 6th October 1976, it followed an offer by Ainslie Homes Association for the Council to take over the bowling green which had been partially developed.

At this stage the Westbury Bowls Club had already been formed and games were played at the Deloraine Bowls Club untill the bowling green was developed at Westbury.

The original intention was to construct a bowling green at the recreation ground using multi purpose club rooms, but after negotiations with Ainslie, Council and the Bowling Club,  Council decided to take over the partially developed Green which allowed the Club to have plans drawn up for the present club rooms and surrounds.

Eventually the Club was able to lease the ground and later purchase. It was by voluntary labour and contract work, that the Club rooms were built and opened in September1981.

Development of the Club would not have been possible without the help of our Associates in fundraising, and their catering skills with dinners, afternoon teas and bowls carnivals. The honour of playing the first pennant game on the new green went to the Associates in 1979.
